The Golden Buddha

One of my favorite stories is The Golden Buddha.  Thousands of years ago, there was a monastery in or around Thailand that had a big Golden Buddha.  The monks would spend time meditating, reading and hanging out near the Buddha.  One day word came from a neighboring village that a conquering army from a far away kingdom was making its way across the countryside taking possession of all valuables and occupying the land.  The monks decided in an effort to protect the Golden Buddha, to cover the gold of the Buddha with dirt, concrete, and sticks to change its appearance to a simple Buddha of no value.

A few days passed when the army moved into the grounds of the monastery with its warriors, weapons and threatening presence.  The large Golden Buddha covered with dirt and sticks drew the armies immediate attention because of its size.  They approached it but saw no value in it because of its appearance and moved on through the countryside.

Years went by with the area still occupied by the foreign army and as time passed the monks forgot that the Buddha was actually Golden yet just covered up by earth and sticks and what not.  More years went by and the army finally left the area.  One day a young Monk was sitting in front of the Buddha meditating when he noticed a chunk of dirt fall from the Buddha's hand and he could see the Gold.  He ran to get the other Monks telling them "the Buddha is golden, the Buddha is golden".  Together they removed all the dirt and debris and uncovered the gold of the Buddha and returned it to its original state.

So, what is the moral of this story?  It's that we are all born golden, but that the gold can be covered up to the extent that we forget our power, our capability or potential.  And what covers it up?  Rational thinking, "should's" and "should not's", judgements of how we should be, rules, laws, etc.  And we buy into these things to the degree that we lose sight of what is real and what is imposed upon us.

Think about this.  How did you develop your ideas of what is right and what is wrong?  Conditioning from family, school, society, religion......all with good intent, developed what you believe to be true about the world.  But what if what you believe isn't working?  Do you think GOD, the Universe or Source Energy had any designs of establishing a line between the US and Mexico called a border and movement by people should be restricted across that line?   Is that progressive and expansive?

From Source's or the Universe's perspective there is no right or wrong, there is no evil or holy.  There is only that which works and that which does not work.  There is only that which is progressive and expansive and that which is not.  Humanity is steeped in beliefs that just are not working.  Is the border policy working?  Ever heard the axiom, "what you resist persists"?  How is that resisting working out?

So what is the answer? Will things change over night?  Is it really possible to have the dramatic shift in thinking that is required for humanity to move back into a progressive and expansive life?  From my perspective the answer is for each individual to look inward and to know thyself.  Know the golden divine connection to all that is that comprises who we are.  The self that has never been born and will never die.   The self that is in this world, but not of it.

Life provides you opportunities almost daily to step back and realize that we are extensions of GOD, Source Energy, the Universe.  Sometimes the opportunities are a gentle nudge, sometimes they are as light as a feather and sometimes they are like a sledge hammer.  As Meister Eckhart said, "Let God be God, as You".  Do you know who Meister Eckhart was?  If you feel the desire, research his life and work, if not, let it be.  My point here is, if something resonates with you, pursue it, research on it, be curious about it.....there is a reason it resonates with you.

If something, including this Blog does not resonate with you, let it go.  Don't resist it, don't judge it, just let it go.  If you push against something persistently because you are "right" and that thing or person is "wrong", you are going to get a  sledge hammer.   By the way, resisting is not going with the Flow.  Sounds obvious, right?  So why are so many people going against the flow?   Why are so many people trying to impose their ideology or beliefs or rules on others?  Is that working?  I don't use drugs, even prescription, but I gotta ask, how is that war on Drugs working out?  I'm not judging it to be right or wrong, but seems to me it ain't working.

Be deliberate in your thinking.  Ask yourself, does that thought move me forward?  Is it progressive?  Does it work?  You don't need to change the world or anyone else for that matter, but if you change the way you think, you are changing the world and those that you interact with.  "Let God, be God, as You", The Universe is available, Source Energy is closer to you than your breath, let it be you!!!
